Teams of Norfolk’s finest young farmers will go head-to-head in the inaugural Aylsham Show Farm-Olympics, putting their agricultural skills, speed and teamwork to the ultimate test.
Teams from Norfolk Young Farmers Clubs will compete in a fast-paced series of challenges, with the coveted gold medals the ultimate prize.
The action promises to be every bit as entertaining as it is competitive, with competitors facing a series of farm-themed tasks designed to test their strength, speed, skill and ability to work together under pressure.
Among the challenges, teams will race to get dressed for work in oversized bib overalls, hats, gloves and boots before moving on to a race to feed the pigs. They will have to fill a bucket with corn, negotiate a gate and get the feed into the trough – without spilling it.
There will also be a steady hand required in the egg-gathering challenge, where competitors must carry five eggs across the arena, with broken eggs adding precious seconds to their team’s time.
Agricultural know-how will come into play during the machinery challenge, as competitors search through a selection of mixed size bolts to find the correct ones and fit them into a steel plate.
Other challenges include carrying a bale across the barnyard, a wheelbarrow race around an obstacle course and the spectacular finale of rolling a large round bale across the arena and back.
The medals will be presented by Andrew Peal, Farm and Estate Manager at Salle Estate and Salle Farms Company, which was named Champion Farm in this year’s Norfolk County Farm Business Competitions, organised by The Aylsham Show.
Taking place at 3:15pm in the Main Ring, the Farm-Olympics promises to be a spectacular display of agricultural skill, teamwork and determination, with supporters cheering their teams on from the sidelines.
